Congratulations to our 2017 $1000 Scholarship winners: Joy Blea and Ben Rocha.

Joy has cumulative GPA of 3.8. While at Granada she has taken various advanced and honors courses such as AP Statistics, AP Language and Composition, and AP Psychology.  Joy has been heavily involved with the club known as Younglife. She has led worship music every Monday night for the past 4 years. She has also been a performer at the Livermore School of Dance since 2013.  Joy has been a member of the varsity dance team at Granada for the past 3 years and was voted both most improved and most inspirational during that time.  Joy was also a member of the dive team from 2013-2015.  She participated in the Every Fifteen Minutes Program to promote awareness of drunk driving in 2016.  Joy wss the ASB Treasurer this year. Last year, she was a junior class officer during 2015-2016 year. Joy’s community service included serving at Kids against Hunger, directing traffic at the Tour de Cure for Diabetes,  performing for the elderly who stay in rest home, leading Vacation Bible School camps and Sports camps for Valley Community Church. and making blankets for the Project Linus program. She will be attending Biola University in the fall. Congratulations Joy Blea!

Ben has a cumulative GPA of 3.8.  He has a love of learning and enjoys challenging himself with AP and Honors classes.  While at Granada, Ben has taken higher level courses such as AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP US History, and AP Government. He has participated in a variety of sports including water polo, lacrosse, and swimming and has been the team captain for several of those teams.  Each of these sports has had an impact on his life, teaching him dedication, teamwork, and leadership.  For two years, he has been a CIF Scholar Athlete in water polo and swimming.  Ben has also been involved with student government, serving as the senior class treasurer.  He has been a lifeguard and a summer swim coach.  He is very involved with the Boy Scouts of America and is an assistant senior patrol leader and an eagle scout.  Boy Scouts has allowed Ben to experience some amazing outdoor adventures such as 50 mile hikes, kayaking, high adventure rock climbing. Ben will be attending Cal Poly in the fall and plans to major in Environmental Science and Management.  Eventually he plans to pursue a law degree.  Congratulations, Ben!
